Flowers are adorned with delicate patterns and markings, giving them an exotic appeal. Despite its tropical appearance, Schizanthus thrives best in cooler temperatures. Growing to about 12–18 inches tall, it makes a stunning addition to garden borders, containers, or as a cut flower. Loved by pollinators, Schizanthus brings a touch of elegance to any garden, living up to its reputation as the “Poor Man's Orchids.”

HOW TO CARE FOR SCHIZANTHUS
PLANTING
Schizanthus thrives in well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Choose a location with full sun to partial shade. If starting indoors, sow seeds 10–12 weeks before the last frost date. Light aids germination, so press seeds lightly onto the soil surface and cover very sparingly. Keep the soil moist but not soggy, and maintain a temperature of 15–18°C. Germination occurs in 14–21 days.
For direct sowing, plant seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, when soil temperatures are consistently above 10°C.
SPACING
Thin or transplant seedlings to 6–12 inches apart to allow good air circulation and promote healthy growth.
CARE
Schizanthus prefers consistently moist soil, so water regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid overwatering. Fertilize every 2–3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer to encourage lush growth and blooms. Deadhead spent flowers to extend the blooming period and maintain a tidy appearance.
