HOW TO CARE FOR DIANTHUS
PLANTING
Dianthus Superbus thrives in rich, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. Choose a spot with full sun to partial shade. Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost or sow them directly outdoors in early spring or autumn. Surface sow the seeds, pressing them lightly into the soil without covering them, as they require light to germinate. Keep the soil temperature between 15-21°C for optimal germination, which occurs in 14-21 days.
GROWING
Space plants 6-9 inches apart to allow for healthy growth. Grow Dianthus in moist but well-drained soil, ensuring it doesn’t become waterlogged. Water established plants only during dry spells, as they are relatively drought-tolerant.
HARVESTING
Dianthus Superbus blooms from spring to fall, offering fragrant, frilly flowers. Harvest blooms in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Use clean snips to cut flowers just above a set of leaves. Regularly deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering.
