Dahlia - Brown Sugar

This warm-toned dahlia boasts a stunning blend of copper, amber, and peach hues in its 4 to 5" blooms. The 4' plant is a prolific bloomer, offering an abundance of striking flowers perfect for arrangements and autumn palettes.

HOW TO CARE FOR DAHLIAS

PLANTING
Plant dahlia tubers in rich, well-draining soil in full sun. Wait until after the last frost and when the soil is warm (around 15°C). Lay the tuber in a hole 4-6 inches deep, with the eye facing up. Space plants 12-18 inches apart to give them room to grow.

GROWING
Water regularly and fertilize with compost or organic fertilizer. Support and tie the stems as they grow. Pinch the center stem when the plant is young (about 6 inches) to encourage more flowers and longer stems.

HARVESTING
For cut flowers, harvest when the blooms are about 3/4 open. Cut early in the morning, late afternoon, or on cloudy days. Choose stems with firm petals, and avoid blooms that look papery. Trim longer stems than you need above a leaf junction and place them in water immediately.

STORAGE
In late fall, dig up the tubers and store them in vermiculite or wood chips in the dark a few degrees above freezing to prevent rotting or sprouting too early.
