Apricotta is a much-loved cosmos variety prized for its warm, softly shifting tones of apricot, blush, peach, and pale rose, often deepening toward the centre of each bloom.
The colour variation from flower to flower gives arrangements a natural, painterly quality that feels both romantic and contemporary. Vigorous and free flowering, Apricotta produces long, slender stems well suited for cutting and continues blooming steadily through the summer when regularly harvested. Its open flowers are also a favourite among bees and other pollinators.
30 seeds minimum.
HOW TO CARE FOR COSMOS
PLANTING Cosmos thrive in full sun and well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Seeds can be sown directly outdoors after the last frost, or started indoors 3 to 4 weeks earlier for an earlier start. Sow seeds lightly on the soil surface and cover very thinly, as light aids germination. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart once established. Germination typically occurs within 5 to 10 days.
GROWING Cosmos prefer relatively lean soil and do not require heavy feeding. Excess fertilizer can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers. Water regularly while plants are establishing, then reduce watering once established, as cosmos are fairly drought tolerant. Pinching young plants can encourage branching and more flowers. Regular harvesting or deadheading will promote continuous blooming throughout the season. Tall varieties may benefit from light support in windy areas.
HARVESTING For cut flowers, harvest when blooms are just beginning to open, ideally in the morning. Frequent harvesting encourages fresh growth and ongoing flower production.
