Sahin’s Early is a reliable, long-blooming helenium featuring warm sunset tones of amber, rust, gold, and burnt orange. Flowering earlier than most helenium varieties, it provides valuable colour in mid to late summer when many perennials are just beginning to peak. Strong stems and abundant blooms make it well suited for cutting, while its rich pollen supply attracts bees and other pollinators.
50 seeds minimum.
HOW TO CARE FOR HELENIUM
PLANTING Thrives in full sun to part shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors once soil has warmed. Lightly cover seeds, as light improves germination. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart. Germination may take 10 to 21 days.
GROWING Keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Helenium prefers richer soil and benefits from compost amendments. Pinch plants back in late spring to encourage bushier growth and prevent flopping. Stake if needed. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to extend flowering.
HARVESTING Harvest when flowers are fully open for longest vase life. Cut stems in the morning and condition immediately in cool water. Frequent cutting encourages continued bloom production.
